Sirjan Afshar carpets are handwoven tribal rugs made by the Afshar nomads in and around Sirjan, a city in Iran’s Kerman Province. These rugs are valued for their durability, authentic tribal character, and warm, earthy aesthetic.
Woven using handspun wool and the Persian (asymmetrical) knot, they have a medium to high pile, making them thick and resilient. Natural dyes derived from plants produce rich, muted tones such as deep reds, indigos, browns, and ochres. These carpets are well-suited for both decorative and practical use.
Designs are typically geometric, reflecting Afshar tribal heritage. Common motifs include stepped diamonds, lozenges, and repeated Herati patterns, often arranged in simple, symmetrical layouts. Borders are usually narrow and filled with stylized, angular elements rather than intricate floral forms.
Sirjan Afshars are often woven in smaller sizes, including mats and prayer rugs, due to their portability for nomadic life. Their bold, rustic designs and high-quality wool give them strong visual appeal, especially in bohemian, traditional, or eclectic interiors.

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
