QASHQAI ABOLVARDI CARPET 300 x 210 CM 9’10” x 6’10”
This magnificent Qashqai Abolvardi carpet from Fars provence south west persia showcases a spectacular diamond medallion design that radiates outward in concentric bands of rich madder red and deep navy blue, creating a mesmerising geometric pattern that draws the eye to the intricate central motif. The carpet features the classic HEBATLU QASHQAI diamond-shaped medallion at its heart with the Hebatlu TRIBAL MOTIF IN THE FOUR CORNER SPANDRELLS, and is also adorned with traditional tribal symbols and surrounded by multiple borders of alternating colours that create a dramatic visual rhythm across the field.
The dominant palette of warm terracotta reds transitions beautifully into darker burgundy and navy sections, with each band meticulously detailed with small geometric patterns, tribal motifs, and decorative elements that demonstrate the weaver’s exceptional skill. The four corners are elegantly finished with complementary medallion designs that echo the central pattern, whilst multiple decorative borders frame the composition with traditional Qashqai geometric patterns, including zigzag lines, floral rosettes, and intricate tribal symbols. This Qashqai Abolvardi carpet exemplifies the sophisticated artistry of southwestern Iranian tribal weaving, with its bold concentric diamond design and masterful use of traditional colours creating a piece that serves as both a functional floor covering and a stunning example of nomadic Persian craftsmanship.

Qashqai Carpets
The Qashqai carpets originate from one of Iran’s most renowned nomadic tribes, native to the Fars Province of southwestern persia primarily inhabiting the majestic Zagros Mountains. The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region, creating a rich cultural heritage that spans over six centuries of continuous weaving tradition. Qashqai carpets have been said to be “probably the most famous of all Persian tribal weavings”, representing the pinnacle of nomadic artistry and craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations of skilled tribal weavers.
Qashqai tribes usually migrate in the spring high into the zagros mountains where there is rich grazing grazing for the flocks of sheep and goats and this nomadic lifestyle profoundly influences their carpet designs. These exceptional pieces are characterised by their vibrant geometric patterns, often featuring bold diamond medallions, stylised animals, and intricate tribal motifs that reflect the weavers’ deep connection to their pastoral environment. The carpets typically employ the Turkish symmetrical knot on wool foundations, with lustrous hand-spun wool pile that creates remarkable durability and visual depth.
Traditional colour palettes include rich crimsons, deep navy blues, and warm earth tones achieved through natural vegetable dyes. Each Qashqai carpet represents not merely a floor covering but a testament to the enduring spirit of nomadic culture, making these pieces highly coveted by collectors worldwide for their authentic tribal character and exceptional artistic merit.
EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
