Mehraband Runner 554 x 81 cm
Mehraband carpets originate from the distinguished weaving region of Mehraband in northwestern Iran, where local artisans have maintained their traditional craft for centuries within the broader Hamadan weaving district. This historic area, nestled in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains, has long served as a centre of Persian carpet production, where the convergence of ancient trade routes and diverse cultural influences created a rich tapestry of artistic traditions. The Mehraband weavers, drawing inspiration from both urban Persian designs and rural tribal motifs, developed their distinctive style that bridges the gap between formal court carpets and rustic village pieces.
Mehraband carpets are characterised by their exceptional construction quality and distinctive design aesthetic, typically featuring wool pile on cotton foundations with medium to high knot density that ensures remarkable longevity. The weavers employ the traditional Persian asymmetrical knot, creating pieces renowned for their precision and durability. Design motifs often include intricate floral patterns, geometric medallions, and stylised vine scrolls executed in sophisticated colour combinations that reflect the region’s artistic heritage. The traditional palette emphasises rich burgundy, navy blue, and warm earth tones achieved through both natural and carefully selected synthetic dyes that maintain colour fastness over time.
These carpets frequently display the refined craftsmanship characteristic of the Hamadan region, whilst maintaining a distinctive regional identity that appeals to collectors seeking authentic Persian pieces. Each Mehraband carpet represents the enduring legacy of northwestern Iran’s weaving traditions and the skilled artisans who have preserved these ancient techniques.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our Tribal Rugs are professionally cleaned before sale to ensure they are of the highest cleanliness and quality before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
