Mashad carpets are elegant, high-quality Persian rugs woven in and around Mashad, the capital of Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran. Known for their large size, fine detail, and lush wool, Mashad carpets are among the most respected urban Persian rugs.
They are typically woven with Persian (asymmetrical) knots on a cotton foundation, using soft, high-grade wool that gives the pile a rich, velvety texture. Knot density is moderate to high, allowing for detailed, flowing designs.
Mashad rugs often feature a large central medallion, surrounded by floral arabesques, vines, and elaborate corner pieces, set against deep red, navy blue, or ivory fields. Borders are wide and intricately decorated, emphasising the rug’s grandeur.
The colour palette is dominated by deep crimson, rich blues, and ivory, achieved using traditional natural dyes.

NATURAL 100% WOOL
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.
