This striking Lur Kermenshah carpet is a superb example of western Iranian tribal weaving, combining the bold geometry of Luri design with the refined structure associated with the Kermanshah region. The rug features a commanding series of stepped, angular medallions running through the centre, each rendered in deep midnight blue and framed by warm chestnut and terracotta tones. These layered shapes create a strong visual rhythm that immediately draws the eye.
The spacious field is woven in a rich, burnt red wool, beautifully variegated with natural abrash that adds depth and character. The design is intentionally uncluttered, allowing the dramatic medallion chain to take centre stage. Small tribal flower motifs are placed within the medallions, adding subtle detail without overwhelming the composition.
A dark navy border frames the piece beautifully, decorated with stylised rosettes, geometric elements, and classic tribal symbols. The corner motifs—depicting small, house-like forms and abstract animals—give the rug a distinctive Luri personality and hint at the weavers’ nomadic heritage.
The palette is earthy, rich, and warm, dominated by terracotta, navy, copper brown, and touches of soft ivory. The wool pile has a gentle sheen and softness, typical of hand-knotted work from this region.
Overall, this Lur Kermenshah carpet is a powerful statement piece: bold, minimal in structure yet full of tribal charm. Its strong geometry and deep colours make it ideal for grounding modern, rustic, or eclectic interiors. A fine example of authentic Persian craftsmanship with a timeless, graphic appeal.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
