Quashqai Gabbeh Carpet (Derrashuri Sub Tribe)
Handwoven by the Derrashuri sub-tribe of the Qashqai nomads in southern Iran, this authentic Gabbeh carpet embodies the raw beauty and artistry of tribal weaving traditions. Known for their bold expression and individuality, Gabbeh rugs are prized for their thick wool pile, natural vegetable dyes, and minimalist yet striking designs that reflect the weavers’ close connection to nature and daily life. Each piece is unique, carrying within its knots the stories, symbols, and cultural identity of the tribe.
The Derrashuri weavers are renowned for their particularly fine craftsmanship, producing Gabbehs with both vibrant, saturated colours and exceptional durability. The simple geometric motifs, stylised animals, or abstract patterns often seen in these carpets lend them a timeless character that sits comfortably in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Their deep pile and natural wool create a soft, luxurious texture underfoot, making them as practical as they are beautiful.
A Qashqai Gabbeh by the Derrashuri is not just a carpet, but a piece of living heritage. Each rug is entirely handmade, using handspun wool and natural dyes derived from plants and roots native to the Zagros Mountains. Durable enough for everyday use yet distinctive enough to serve as a statement piece, it is an heirloom-quality carpet that brings warmth, authenticity, and artistry into the home.
EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
