Lilihan Sarouk Carpet

£4,000.00

This Lilihan Sarouk carpet has a warm salmon-coral ground, filled with an all-over floral design of sprays, vases of flowers and long arching vine stems. Clusters of blossoms in navy, mid-blue and ivory scatter across the field, with tall feathery plant forms and small leafy sprays rising between them. Down the centre runs a soft medallion-like arrangement of flower heads and palmettes, so the design has a gentle focus without a formal central medallion.

The palette is classic and elegant: salmon and rose-coral, deep navy, soft cornflower blue and ivory, with touches of sage green, gold and pink picking out the flower centres. The blues are especially lovely against the warm ground.

The main border is a deep navy, carrying a flowing band of rosettes and leafy palmettes in coral, blue, ivory and sage. It’s framed by narrow guard stripes, including a slim blue band with small flower heads, which gives a crisp edge between border and field.

The pile is full and soft with a lovely sheen, the colours rich and the drawing graceful throughout. A generous size and timeless colouring make it a natural centrepiece for a living room or dining room.

This carpet was woven in Lilihan in the Sarouk style, and it has all the hallmarks of both: the signature salmon-red ground, flowing floral sprays and that distinctive navy and blue colouring.

About Lilihan Sarouk carpets

Lilihan is a village in the Arak region of central Iran, historically home to an Armenian weaving community, close to the area that gave Sarouk rugs their name. Lilihan weavers often worked in the Sarouk style, best known for a salmon or rose-red ground covered with sprays of flowers, vases and vines in navy and blue, usually without a formal central medallion. Hand-knotted with a wool pile and known for their sturdy construction, Lilihan Sarouks combine the elegance of Sarouk design with the character of village weaving, and suit both traditional and contemporary interiors.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
