This striking thick pile Kurdish carpet is a wonderful example of tribal weaving from the western regions of Iran, celebrated for their bold geometry and rich natural dyes. The design is dominated by a beautifully balanced chain of stepped medallions running vertically through the centre, each rendered in deep terracotta, midnight blue, and warm chestnut tones. These medallions feature stylised floral and geometric motifs, giving the piece a rhythmic, architectural feel typical of Kurdish craftsmanship.

The surrounding field is filled with small tribal elements — tiny rosettes, angular blossoms, abstract animal forms, and symbolic motifs — all intricately arranged against a contrasting ground of soft black and brick red. This dense detailing adds texture and depth without overwhelming the clarity of the central design.

A wide border frames the rug, combining earthy reds, nut browns, ivory, and muted saffron. Its repeating rosette-and-vine pattern provides structure and beautifully complements the complexity of the field. Subtle abrash (natural colour variation in the hand-dyed wool) gives the carpet character, warmth, and the unmistakable charm of a handmade tribal piece.

Woven with a soft, durable wool pile, this Kurdish carpet has a wonderfully warm palette and a strong graphic presence. It’s ideal for adding richness, depth, and traditional character to living rooms, studies, hallways, or eclectic interiors.

A fine example of authentic Kurdish tribal weaving — bold, characterful, and full of cultural heritage.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
