Kerman Ravar Persian carpets represent one of the most prestigious and sought-after styles in the world of hand-woven rugs, originating from the Kerman province in southeastern Iran. These carpets are specifically named after the village of Ravar, located near the city of Kerman, which has been a centre of exceptional carpet weaving for centuries.

Kerman has been renowned for carpet production since the Safavid period, spanning the 16th to 18th centuries, with Ravar emerging as a distinct style in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The region’s strategic location along ancient trade routes contributed to the development of sophisticated weaving techniques and design aesthetics that blend Persian, Central Asian, and even European influences.

Kerman Ravar carpets are distinguished by their exceptional quality, featuring very high knot counts that often range from 300 to 600 knots per square inch, resulting in incredibly detailed patterns and remarkable durability. These masterpieces are made with high-quality wool pile on cotton foundations, with some pieces incorporating silk highlights for added luxury. The designs showcase classic Persian patterns, including elaborate floral motifs, medallions, palmettes, hunting scenes, and pictorial representations, all rendered in rich, harmonious colours dominated by deep reds, blues, ivory, and gold achieved through traditional dyeing methods.

The carpets are hand-knotted using the Persian knot technique, which allows for greater detail and durability. Master weavers in the Ravar region are known for their precision and artistic skill, often working from detailed cartoons to create these complex patterns that represent the pinnacle of Persian carpet artistry.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
