Kashan carpets are among the finest Persian rugs, originating from the city of Kashan in central Iran. Known for their high quality, they are typically handwoven using soft wool, a cotton foundation, and sometimes silk in luxury versions. They use the Persian (asymmetrical) knot and often feature a high knot density, allowing for intricate detailing.
Designs usually include a large central medallion on a red, navy blue, or ivory field, surrounded by floral motifs, vines, and palmettes. The rugs are symmetrical, with richly patterned borders, reflecting classic Persian artistry.
Kashan became a major weaving center during the Safavid dynasty (16th–18th century), and antique pieces from this era are now valuable collector’s items. Even modern Kashan rugs are prized for their durability and elegant appearance.
To identify a Kashan carpet, look for the central medallion layout, fine knotting, traditional floral motifs, and a rich, balanced color scheme.
EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
