Hussainabad carpets originate from the village of Hussainabad (also known as Hosseinabad) located near the historic city of Hamadan in northern Iran, where semi-nomadic peoples have maintained their traditional weaving practices for generations within the broader Hamadan weaving district. This region, renowned as one of Iran’s most significant carpet-producing areas, has fostered a distinctive tribal weaving tradition that combines the technical excellence of urban Persian carpets with the authentic character of nomadic artistry. The village’s strategic position near Hamadan has allowed local weavers to benefit from centuries of carpet-making expertise whilst preserving their unique tribal aesthetic and traditional techniques.

Hussainabad rugs are characterised by their exceptional handcrafted quality, featuring entirely wool pile on cotton foundations with natural vegetable dyes that create rich, enduring colours. The weavers employ traditional techniques passed down through generations, creating pieces that showcase bold geometric designs with intricate central medallions surrounded by detailed borders that reflect a harmonious blend of tribal and classical Persian influences. The colour palette predominantly features shades of red, deep blues, and warm earth tones that demonstrate the skill of local dyers using naturally sourced materials.

These tribal rugs typically display the robust construction characteristic of the Hamadan region, with medium knot density that ensures remarkable durability and longevity. Each Hussainabad carpet represents the authentic spirit of semi-nomadic Persian weaving traditions, making these pieces highly valued by collectors seeking genuine tribal carpets that embody both historical significance and exceptional craftsmanship from one of Iran’s most distinguished weaving regions.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
