Hussainabad Rug 303 x 213 cm
£2,500.00
A LOVELY THICK PILE VILLAGE HUSSAINABAD WITH GOOD COLOURS WOVEN BY THE LADIES OF THE LUR TRIBE.
This Hussainabad rug is set on a rich brick-red ground, covered edge to edge in a tight, all-over herati pattern of small diamond lattices, rosettes and serrated leaves. At its heart sits a crisp ivory medallion, a stepped cross-shaped diamond with pointed finials, outlined in navy and filled with small geometric flowers in red, teal, apricot and dark brown. It stands out beautifully against the busy field around it. Matching ivory spandrels sit in each corner, echoing the medallion and neatly framing the design.
The colours are warm and well balanced: brick and rust reds, deep navy, ivory and teal-green, lifted by flashes of apricot, gold and soft pink in the rosette centres.
The main border is a deep navy-black band carrying a running vine of rosettes and small geometric flowers in red, ivory, blue and burnt orange. It’s framed by guard stripes in red and royal blue with a fine zigzag pattern, and finished with a narrow outer stripe of small ivory and red motifs.
The pile is thick and lustrous, with clear, saturated colours and sharp drawing throughout. A generous size and strong, classic design make it a great centrepiece for a living room or dining room.
This rug was woven in Hussainabad, and it shows all the hallmarks of the village’s work: the classic red ground, the all-over herati pattern and the bold ivory medallion at its centre.
About Hussainabad rugs
Hussainabad is a village in the Hamadan region of western Iran, one of the country’s best-known rug-weaving areas. Hussainabad rugs are hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation and are known for being thick, sturdy and hard-wearing. Their signature design is the herati pattern, a repeating motif of rosettes, diamonds and curved leaves, usually on a deep red or navy ground and often with a small central medallion and matching corners. Practical, colourful and full of character, they work just as well in busy family rooms as in more formal settings.
Dimensions: 303 x 213 cm / 10’1″ x 7′
EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
