Good Nanaj Rug 384 x 173 cm
£3,500.00
This Nanaj rug is covered edge to edge in a fine, all-over herati pattern set on a deep midnight-navy ground. Small rosettes sit inside diamond lattices, each flanked by curling serrated leaves, and the motif repeats in close rows across the whole field. The result is busy but beautifully even, the kind of design that looks rich from across the room and rewards a closer look.
The colours are warm and mellow: salmon pink, coral and rust dominate, lifted by ivory and soft gold highlights on the curved leaves, with occasional hints of teal and olive in the rosette centres.
The main border is a rich rust-red, carrying large open blossoms in pink, ivory and deep blue, linked by slender navy and teal leaves. It’s framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes in ivory and navy, with a fine reciprocal zigzag that neatly separates border from field.
The pile is full and glossy, the drawing crisp, and the rug lies well with its fringes visible at the end. Its elongated proportions suit a living room, dining room or a generous hallway.
This rug was woven in Nanaj, and it shows all the hallmarks of the village’s work: the classic deep night-blue ground, warm reds, and a tightly drawn all-over design that has kept its crispness over the years.
About Nanaj rugs
Nanaj is a small village in the Malayer area of Hamadan province in western Iran, a region with a long tradition of village rug weaving. Nanaj rugs are hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, and are known for their dense weave, durable handle and characterful designs. Deep navy and red are the signature colours, often combined with all-over patterns of palmettes, flower heads and trailing vines, and sometimes small animal and figure motifs. Hard-wearing and full of village charm, they sit happily in both traditional and modern homes.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
