This striking dark thick pile Qashqai carpet features a bold central diamond medallion design set against a rich navy blue field that creates dramatic contrast with the warm terracotta red diamond at its heart. The large central medallion displays intricate geometric patterns in deep red with delicate floral and tribal motifs scattered throughout, while smaller diamond-shaped elements in ivory and rust tones provide elegant accent points within the composition.
The dark navy field surrounding the medallion is adorned with traditional Qashqai motifs, including stylised flowers, geometric symbols, and tribal patterns that create visual interest across the entire surface. The carpet showcases the characteristic Qashqai colour palette with its sophisticated combination of deep indigo blues, rich madder reds, and cream highlights that demonstrate the masterful use of natural dyes. Multiple decorative borders frame the composition, featuring traditional geometric patterns, floral rosettes, and tribal symbols in harmonious earth tones that complement the dramatic central design. This dark Qashqai carpet exemplifies the bold aesthetic of Persian tribal weaving, with its strong contrast between the deep navy field and vibrant red medallion creating a piece that combines traditional nomadic artistry with sophisticated colour balance and exceptional craftsmanship.

Qashqai Carpet
The Qashqai carpets originate from one of Iran’s most renowned nomadic tribes, native to the Fars Province of southwestern Iran, primarily inhabiting the majestic Zagros Mountains. The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region, creating a rich cultural heritage that spans over six centuries of continuous weaving tradition. Qashqai carpets have been said to be “probably the most famous of all Persian tribal weavings”, representing the pinnacle of nomadic artistry and craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations of skilled tribal weavers.
Qashqai tribes usually migrate two times a year south of Isfahan, Fars, and Khuzestan province of Iran (mostly surrounding Fars province), speaking in the Turkish language, and this nomadic lifestyle profoundly influences their carpet designs. These exceptional pieces are characterised by their vibrant geometric patterns, often featuring bold diamond medallions, stylised animals, and intricate tribal motifs that reflect the weavers’ deep connection to their pastoral environment. The carpets typically employ the Turkish symmetrical knot on wool foundations, with lustrous hand-spun wool pile that creates remarkable durability and visual depth.
Traditional colour palettes include rich crimsons, deep navy blues, and warm earth tones achieved through natural vegetable dyes. Each Qashqai carpet represents not merely a floor covering but a testament to the enduring spirit of nomadic culture, making these pieces highly coveted by collectors worldwide for their authentic tribal character and exceptional artistic merit.
EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our rugs and carpets are professionally cleaned before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
