Borujerd Runner 537 x 115 cm

Borujerd carpets originate from the historic city of Borujerd in Lorestan Province, western Iran, a region that has served as a crossroads of ancient trade routes and cultural exchange for over a millennium. This strategic location in the Zagros Mountains has fostered a rich tapestry of influences, from ancient Persian traditions to tribal Kurdish and Lur heritage, creating a unique weaving tradition that reflects the diverse cultural identity of the region. The city’s position along historical caravan routes exposed local artisans to varied artistic influences, resulting in carpets that blend classical Persian motifs with distinctive regional characteristics.

Borujerd carpets are renowned for their exceptional construction quality, typically featuring wool pile on cotton foundations with medium to high knot density that ensures remarkable longevity. The designs often showcase intricate floral patterns, including palmettes, vine scrolls, and garden motifs, executed in sophisticated colour combinations of deep burgundy, navy blue, cream, and gold. Many pieces feature elaborate central medallions surrounded by detailed corner spandrels and multiple borders containing traditional Persian guard bands. The weaving technique employs the Persian asymmetrical knot, with careful attention to color gradation and pattern symmetry. These carpets represent the refined artistry of settled weavers who have preserved centuries-old techniques while adapting to contemporary aesthetic demands, creating pieces that seamlessly bridge traditional Persian craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our Tribal Rugs are professionally cleaned before sale to ensure they are of the highest cleanliness and quality before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
