Bakhtiri Runner 376 x 97 cm
Bakhtiari carpets are masterfully crafted within a 100-kilometre radius around the city of Shahr-e Kord in west-central Iran, in the foothills of the majestic Zagros Mountains, where nomads and semi-nomads of the Bakhtiari tribe weave oriental carpets of extraordinary durability. These authentic pieces are produced in settled Bakhtiari communities southwest of Isfahan, primarily in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, with additional production in parts of Isfahan, Lorestan, and eastern Khuzestan. The Bakhtiari people, renowned for their pastoral lifestyle and rich cultural traditions, have created carpets that reflect their deep connection to the natural world and seasonal migrations through Iran’s mountainous terrain.
The extensive carpet production area of Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari incorporates both nomadic and village weavers of diverse origins, with carpets commonly sold under the name Bakhtiari, sometimes designated by place names such as Boldaji, Feridan, or Saman. These carpets are characterised by their distinctive garden compartment designs, featuring geometric panels filled with stylised trees, flowers, and animals that symbolise the Persian concept of paradise. The robust construction typically employs wool pile on cotton foundations, with rich colour palettes dominated by deep blues, warm reds, and golden yellows. The Bakhtiari weaving tradition represents centuries of nomadic artistry, creating heirloom pieces that combine exceptional durability with the authentic spirit of Persian tribal craftsmanship.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE
Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
NATURAL 100% WOOL
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.
PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED
All our Tribal Rugs are professionally cleaned before sale to ensure they are of the highest cleanliness and quality before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
