Lur Gabbeh carpets are traditional tribal rugs woven by the Lur people, an ethnic group from the Zagros Mountains in western Iran. These carpets are a subtype of Gabbeh rugs, known for their thick pile, coarse weave, and bold, abstract designs.
Lur Gabbehs are typically made from handspun wool and dyed with natural plant-based dyes, resulting in rich, earthy colors—deep reds, indigo blues, ochres, and browns. Unlike urban Persian carpets, Lur Gabbehs often feature geometric patterns, simple motifs, or freeform designs inspired by nature and daily tribal life. Each piece is unique and reflects the personal expression of the weaver, often women working without a set pattern.
The pile is usually long and soft, giving the rugs a plush texture ideal for colder mountain climates. Lur Gabbehs are both decorative and functional, traditionally used as floor coverings, blankets, or sleeping mats.
Today, Lur Gabbeh carpets are appreciated for their authentic tribal character and minimalist charm, making them popular in modern and bohemian interiors. They offer a striking contrast to the refined symmetry of classical Persian rugs and are valued for their cultural authenticity and handmade quality.

NATURAL 100% WOOL OR NATURAL FIBRES
All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys, where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture and when spun, using many natural dyes, which have a high colour saturation.
