About Our Authentic Persian Rugs & Carpets
A Heritage Woven in the Zagros Mountains
Our collection represents a lifelong passion for authentic Persian rugs, hand-selected from the remote, high-altitude valleys of the Zagros Mountain range. These are not mere floor coverings; they are woven stories of the pastoral and nomadic tribes—the Kurd, Lur, Bakhtiari, and Qashqai—whose traditions have remained unchanged for centuries.
They herd their flocks during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.
The Persian carpets we have in our shop are handwoven using this wool, which is ethical, sustainable and constitutes a substantial source of income for the families in these remote mountain areas.

The Finest Hand-Spun Wool & Natural Dyes
The journey of every vintage Persian carpet in our shop begins with the seasonal migration of nomadic flocks.
The Source: During the summer, sheep graze on mineral-rich grasses in cool mountain valleys, producing a thick, lustrous fleece of exceptional quality.
The Process: This wool is hand-spun and colored using traditional natural dyes, resulting in a high colour saturation and a unique “abrash” (natural colour variation) that only genuine hand-knotted pieces possess.
The Result: A fine-textured, durable rug that is as much a piece of art as it is a functional heirloom.
Ethically Sourced & Sustainable
We are committed to ethical sourcing. By working directly with weaving families and tribal communities in these remote regions, we ensure that our trade provides a sustainable source of income for the artisans. Every rug is hand-knotted, sustainable by nature, and chosen for its unique character and heritage.

I was really uncertain about what I wanted but I loved the Persian Rugs I saw on the website. I visited the shop in Narberth, which was very close to Bristol and seeing the carpets in the flesh made all the difference.
Alex listened carefully to what I wanted and helped guide me to the perfect rug and I am so happy with it – it looks even better in my lounge and I can highly recommend Zargos if you are looking for a unique traditional Persian rug.
