Nahavand Runner 462 X 74 cm

Nahavand carpets originate from the ancient city of Nahavand in western Iran, which is one of Iran’s leading rug-provenances and produces high-quality Persian rugs that have a very good reputation. Usually a very shiny wool is used, which gives the patterns and design of the carpet a strong personality. Nahavand is a town in the province of Hamadan which is situated in the western part of Iran. The surrounding region around the city of Hamadan is one of the most productive when it comes to carpet manufacturing in Iran. This historic city, with its strategic location along ancient trade routes, has been a centre of Persian weaving excellence for centuries, where local artisans developed their distinctive style that combines traditional Persian motifs with regional characteristics.

Nahavand rugs are renowned for their exceptional durability, thanks to the high-quality materials used in their construction. The weavers predominantly use local wool, prized for its superior strength and softness, to create the pile of these rugs. Cotton is used for the warp and weft, creating a foundation that ensures remarkable longevity. Most of the Nahavands made are about 5 feet by 8 feet. They don’t usually come in very large sizes because the weavers use simple horizontal looms.

The carpets are distinguished by their lustrous wool pile that creates exceptional visual depth and their characteristic floral designs featuring palmettes, vine scrolls, and garden motifs. Mostly, Nahavand rugs are held in the colours red, blue and beige, executed with the precision that has made this region famous throughout the Persian carpet world. These meticulously crafted pieces represent the pinnacle of regional Persian weaving traditions and continue to be highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

A central centre medallion sets the tone in many cases. It is decorated with leaf, flower and branch motifs.

EVERY DESIGN IS UNIQUE

Due to their handcrafted nature, the pattern on our Persian Rugs may show slight imperfections, which are a hallmark of traditional weaving techniques and a sign of its authenticity and craftsmanship.

NATURAL 100% WOOL

All our Persian rugs and carpets are made with 100% wool from sheep or goats belonging to pastoral nomads who inhabit the Zargos Mountain Range in Iran. The flocks are herded during the spring months to the cooler climates of the high mountain plateaus and valleys where the grass is abundant and rich in minerals. The fleeces grow thick and produce a lustrous wool, fine in texture, and when spun and using many natural dyes, have a high colour saturation.

PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED

All our Tribal Rugs are professionally cleaned before sale to ensure they are of the highest cleanliness and quality before we place them on sale in our Narberth showroom.
